Summer City Hotness

Hot time summer in the city, this painting is getting dirty and gritty.

Happiness is a Warm Storm

A turbulent landscape of sorts, volatile extremes. Like life, one moment it is happy and the other is filled with chaos.

Birch Bend Autumn

A birch tree trunk in fall with setting sun in the clear crisp mountain sky.

Elated in Scenery

Whimsical “Live Painting” and free flowing, in this series I use bright colors and an improvisational style inspired by music. I work on each piece as if it were a performance, the script unknown until it is complete.

One in Red Sky

An interesting landscape at dusk with a red sky over the water. Reflections of mountains and some sort of light orb.

Paradise Ranch

A secret laboratory hiding secrets and making new contacts.

Rooted in Red Earth

A similar idea from a previous series. Landscaped from above, dark clouds extend and root themselves in earth.

Island Shore

An ocean landscape, soothing low tide, and deserted islands off in the distance.

Glacial Impression

Abstract Ice Caps or maybe Icebergs melting into earth and reflecting.

Boats and Birds

An ocean at sunset with reflections of boats.

Landscape Expressions

From peaceful and desolate, to frightening images of imagined places, this body of work explores my thoughts with an expressionistic style. Themes of texture are in each piece, and the final addition of a coat of stain or wash gives the images an added element of age and depth.

Hybridization

A mixture or blend of something special, maybe a landscape or something bubbly. It all depends how you look at the world I guess, what do you see?

Internal Landscapes

Texture and motion are important parts of any landscape. As I look at the world the texture jumps out at me and this is why I incorporate this element into my abstract landscapes.

Combining landscapes I see in my dreams, and in my life with the texture I find in everyday objects provide the inspiration for each piece. Some of these dreams are tranquil, some, down right frightening; they all etch a scene in my mind that inspires me. From a rusty nail, a distressed old sign, or a rotten piece of wood, I add depth to these landscape scenes from the textures I see in everyday objects.

I am engaged to layer on paint, bringing these textures out and into the scenes. Using brushes, rubber spatulas, fingers and sandpaper I work away at each piece until my vision is realized. Finally I finish them off with a wash or stain, adding age and depth.

Industrial elements combined with nature, rough edges and bumpy terrain merge with soft, sanded edges. These internal landscapes represent places deep inside my mind.

Summer Camp

abstract painting
Ahhh... the childhood memories of summer camp. The use of earthy and natural tones create an atmosphere that brings me happy thoughts, thank you Bob Ross.

Firehouse

A firehouse in the city. The events of Sept. 11, 2001 colored this piece. My way of honoring the heroes of that day through painting.

Double Shock

This was an abstract painting I did back in the Spring of 2001. A piece truly from inside my mind, I had no idea what I was painting when I started, just strong sporadic strokes of dark and light, gradually forming two buildings in a urban city, two planes, and a face of sorrow and figure in despair in the bottom right. After the events of September 2001 that followed the completion of this piece I realized just what I had painted and what I had possibly seen. I feel like it was a premonition, an obscure sign.

Internal Bliss

Energy within can explode into something beautiful.
